Phosgene chemistry

Phosgene is a key building block in many high-yield syntheses, such as those of isocyanates, ureas, heterocycles and chloroformates. Simply avoiding hazardous reagents such as phosgene is not practical in many cases because they provide easy and cost-efficient access to important chemical intermediates.

Mainly because of the experience acquired with large-scale processes in the polymer industry, extensive and efficient safety concepts for phosgene handling have been developed. Our modern facilities and our skilled personnel also provides for safety when employing this chemistry.

In addition to employing phosgene in our custom manufacturing services, Saltigo also offers a range of key intermediates derived from phosgene as multi-customer products. Examples include chloroformates and organic carbonates.
