REACH

REACH (the Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) is the new European Chemicals Regulation, introduced on June 1, 2007, with the aim to improve the safe use of substances in all uses and to harmonize chemicals legislation in the EU Member States.

REACH regulates the handling of chemical substances either on their own, in preparations or in articles, and covers all chemical substances, dangerous or not.

REACH places responsibility for the safety of chemicals on manufacturers and importers, who have to provide the necessary data for evaluation. They must convince that their chemicals

• are safe to handle for all intended uses
• do not adversely affect human health of down-stream users or consumers 
• do not pollute the environment

REACH will provide a high level of transparency through the whole product chain to downstream product users and consumers. To achieve this, an in-depth exchange of information between suppliers and customers is necessary to meet these requirements.

Saltigo will work with its customer to obtain information on the use of and exposure to its products, in order to be able to draw up exposure scenarios.

What does saltigo do to comply with REACH?

Saltigo has pre-registered more than 1000 substances; furthermore, several hundred existing (phase-in) substances will be registered until 2018. 

Due to the business of Saltigo, a large number of non phase-in substances has to be registered; most of them are exclusively handled as intermediates. 

Substance Registration

For substances, which are produced or imported in quantities of more than one ton per year per manufacturer or importer, each manufacturer or importer must file a registration.

The registration of all substances is one of the core obligations arising out of the REACH regulation that is imposed on all substance manufacturers and importers.

It will give the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) the chance to monitor and issue information on the chemicals handled in the European Union.

Compounds with ELINCS notification are considered as registered.
